Murder in Frankford

Monday, October 27th, 2008

From Sam Wood at the Inquirer:

Friday night, police were called to the 4700 block of Penn Street were they found a man who had taken a shotgun blast to his head. Carlos Maldonado, 19, was found in the hallway of his home. He was taken to Temple where he died late Saturday. Investigators have no motive or suspect, police said.

This is number 11 this year.  And they say murder is down overall in the city.  So maybe they have all relocated to Frankford.

Murder in Frankford

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Number 12 for this year.  Tell us violent crime is down. From kyw1060.com:

Then, around 4:30am Monday morning, an unknown gunman shot a 27-year-old man in the chest in the 1400 block of Unity Street in the city’s Northeast.  He died an hour later at Temple University Hospital.

Frankford home of the week

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I don’t usually talk to the homeowners when I am out taking pictures but on Factory Street (4300 block) you are conspicuous buy just driving up there.  This guy did all the work on his house, a bit at a time.  He keeps his property neat and clean and would certainly make a good neighbor for anyone.

Crime map update

Friday, October 24th, 2008

We updated the crime map page to include the most recent month.  You can find it here.  I compile these things myself and can’t help but notice the spreading menace as it moves into areas previously thought of as “safe”.  This is almost like the chickens coming home to roost.  As the police tighten things up in our area, the vermin are forced to move into other areas to ply their trade.

I heard from a citizen last week that since the cameras have been installed in McDonald’s on Frankford Avenue and outside at Bridge and Pratt on the Avenue, the outdoor drug salesmen have been forced to move around up there.  So now they have to get creative and move away from the cameras.
