The Clog Rags on Tony Payton Jr for Thinking Outside of the Box

Tony Payton JrWe caught the City Paper’s staff blog “The Clog” mocking our very own state 179th rep Tony Payton Jr for searching for a Chief of Staff on craigslist.  You’d think a young hip organization like that would appreciate the nuances of using the internet for more than just porn.  We’re almost a decade through the 21st century, c’mon now, only geriatrics search monster and careerbuilder.

Maybe I’m wrong but to me this is just another example of this dude’s efforts and attempts to do his freakin job.  Should we ask Tony to handle his business by the book?  Would Frankford be better off if Tony would’ve just hired his brother or high school buddy?  Maybe after that, he can kiss the establishment’s ass and wait in line for his turn at state rep in 20 or 30 years.  Then when he gets his act together he’ll be able to  start no showing the Friends of Overington Park’s TWO tree planting days like counsel woman Maria Quinones-Sanchez.  We’re still waiting on them cookies Maria.  I’m still thirsty for that orange juice you said was comin.

TP returns his phone calls and shows his face in Frankford.  Duder’s an outsider, he acts like an outsider.  That ad really makes it seem like he expects his Chief of Staff to do a day’s work.  I like it that way.  But it really sucks cause that coulda been a real choice no show job.  But I’m still waitin, cause aside from some pettiness over at phillyblog, I haven’t heard a bad thing about this guy.  It sucks that a whole lot more decision making for Frankford sits at the municipal level, cause if we had a few more like him at the city level we might be better off.

But we know The Clog is just ragging on Tony for internet filler.  We’re doing the same to them.  I hate slow news days.

  1. Thanks for keeping it real. I could not agree with you more. Maria is a real disappointment and has done NOTHING for Frankford.

  2. Danny Savage is establishment but even still, I’ve seen him showing up at events 4 different times, including planting trees in Overington Park. It was a sad day for Frankford when he lost to Quinones-Sanchez. Even the late great Peggy Hoch of the East Frankford Civic switched from Republican to Democrat just to be able to vote for him in the primary. That woman is ignoring Frankford and chasing the development money down in Kensington.

  3. I don’t know if Molly’s mocking Payton so much as having a little fun with him. But I guess that’s all a matter of interpretation.

  4. An interesting follow up question would be to ask why Rep. Payton’s previous chief of staff resigned.

Hopefully the position will soon be filled without any interruption to the good job Rep. Payton is doing in the State House.

  5. The whole “establishment” comment about Mr. Savage is uncalled for. Councilwoman Sanchez ran as a progressive like Payton right? Payton supported her right? Apparently her being a true progressive is false. You can’t lump someone into one group and take jabs at them for it and not the other. Either you are a good elected official or you are not. It apparently doesn’t matter if you are labeled “progressive” or from the “establishment”. Officials from both can do a great job or fail miserably. Also, I agree that the attacks on Payton you linked here are extremely harsh but as I read the posts on Philly Blog he wasn’t completely innocent either. Let be fair.

  6. Just to be clear, my above comment is not reflection on the great job I believe the State Rep is doing in Frankford.

  7. In response to ob’s question. We found out that Dan Lodise went to work with another state rep, Brendan Boyle

  8. I spoke to Dan Lodise in regard to another issue and he explained that he has been friends with Brendan Boyle almost his entire life. Given their friendship he accepted the position, else he would still be with Tony Payton.
