Frankford home of the week

We’re back in Northwood on the 4700 block of Northwood Street.  I have always been fascinated by this house.  Does anybody know anything about the history?

  1. I love that house, too. It was built between 1920 and 1929, and one of the railings was done in 1947 by the famous Philadelphia blacksmith Samuel Yellin.

(I do house histories, by the way, in case anyone is interested in that kind of thing.)

  2. To Matt Ainslie: how would a person go about getting history on their house?

  3. Hi Matt, I live on the 1300 block of Orthodox St. I love my house but know very little about its past. I believe the house was built in the 1800’s. Anything you may know about these houses, please pass it along.

  4. This is one of the things I do for a living, actually. I charge $40 an hour with a 1-hour minimum, but the first hour can usually narrow it down fairly well. With more time than that things like title searches are possible, which often nail the year of a house precisely. I can be reached at bellowsburst@yahoo.com.
