Dear Crazymommy:
You just made the best case for the need for parent involvement in our schools. Thank you for sharing and it's very true that it is going to take a lot of effort on everyone's part to improve our schools. We need all concerned parties at the table!

With the shape public schools are in is it any wonder the kids choose not to go? They are filthy, overcrowded, dangerous and doing a poor job with everything! When my son attended Frankford high (one of the cities most dangeous schools by the way) He had to walk home to use the toilet because the bathrooms there were degusting and filthy. He was mugged and stabbed there (two separate incidents). It was no surprised when he dropped out and then went to the twilight program at northeast hs to get his diploma. It can't all be blamed on the parents or students. The schools are not safe and are not teaching. American students are way behind students all over the world in knowledge and graduation. The teachers who actually want to teach and who bother to make an effort are not supported by the school district. Even the teachers are not safe. Maybe there should be meetings about making the schools fit to attend to reduce truancy? Talk about spinning the issue!
