  • Baroque Music Ensemble – Fri, September 7, 7:30pm – 9:00pm, St. Joachim Church, 1527 Church St., The young, dynamic, Washington D.C. -based baroque music trio, Corda Nova, takes audiences on a journey to late 17th & 18th Century Germany, where music was composed in the stylus fantasticus manner to showcase technical prowess with improvisational spirit.   • Historical Society of Frankford program – Tue, September 11, 7:30pm – 9:00pm, 1507 Orthodox St.,, Join the Historical Society of Frankford in remembering the life and works of Philadelphia’s prolific architect, Frank H Furness — recognized by the American Institute of Architects as one of this nation’s ten greatest architects — as we offer our own ceremonial eulogy for his contributions to Philadelphia and the nation. We will be joined by Frankford’s GAR Museum and Library, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and others as we acknowledge his service as a Rush’s Lancer, his receipt of a Congressional Medal of Honor, and other lesser known aspects of his life. Of 800 structures built from his designs, only 200 survive today. Northeast Philadelphia is fortunate to have two of these — the Mortuary Chapel of Mt Sinai Cemetery, 1901 Bridge Street (http://mtsinaicemetery.org/history.html), and the Knowlton Mansion, Furness’ only remaining country house, at 8001 Verree Road (http://www.conroycatering.com/docs/km_travel.html).

  • Hope4Philly – Sat, September 15, 11am – 3pm, Harding Middle School, 4700 Torresdale Ave., Hope4Philly is a nonprofit organization which consists of a network of organizations, churches, and community services across the greater Philadelphia area focused on bring hope and healing to the at-risk families and communities in our region. This is accomplished through outreach events and coordinated efforts. At each outreach site there will be resources provided that offer a hand up, not just a hand out.

Frankford Civic Association September 6th Meeting Agenda

Frankford Civic Association Agenda for Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 7 PM.  The civic meeting will be held in the second-floor Conference room at ARlA hospital formerly known As the old Frankford Hospital 4900 Frankford Ave. At that time we will be discussing:

  • Expansion of a day care from 6 to 12 children at 4327 Penn St.
  • Plans to open a Grocery store on the southeast comer of Margaret And Hawthorne Street formerly the TNT bar
  • Property at 4834 Penn St.
