Movie Night in Overington Park

By Diane Kunze

We had over 140 people turn out to see the movie Brave on July 24th. The weather was perfect, it was good to be in our park together to enjoy a movie on a cool summer movie night 4x6evening. The movie was sponsored by the Friends of Overington Park and Parkside Apartments, the snacks were given out by the Northeast EPIC Stakeholders. The blankets were spread and chairs arranged.

We were ready to have a good time, but we ran into some problems with the movie equipment. The color bulb went out on the projector and the speaker malfunctioned. We ‘braved’ it out until the movie ended but our crowd had thinned to under 40. We hoped for a better night at the movies but we were glad that so many neighbors came together for summer fun in Overington Park. Hopefully by our next movie the equipment will be in good order.

Please join us on Thursday August 15th for the showing of the Avengers, sponsored by State Representative James Clay, with treats fro Northeast EPIC Stakeholders. Bring your blankets or a chair and spend a nice evening in your community at the movies!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Overington Park last Wednesday night and come again on August 15th!

Diane Kunze, Friend of Overington Park

St. Joachim to Reopen for Special Mass

From Tom Waring and the Northeast Times:

The former St. Joachim Catholic church in Frankford will reopen this weekend for a special Mass.

The Rev. Tom Higgins, pastor at Holy Innocents Parish, will celebrate a Mass on Saturday July 27th at 4:30 p.m. in honor of the feast of St. Joachim.

St. Joachim was the husband of St. Anne and the father of Mary, mother of Jesus. He is the patron of fathers, grandfathers, grandparents, married couples, cabinetmakers and linen traders. His feast day is Friday.

Police No Show at PSA1 Meeting

There were ten Frankford residents at Aria hospital on July 25th for the monthly PSA1 meeting but the police did not attend.   So far we have had no explanation.  There are occasional scheduling conflicts but when that has happened in the past, notice is given ahead of time.

Lack of police did not stop residents from continuing to raise the issue of rising drug activity on the 4700 block of Griscom.  Earlier in the Spring, activity had calmed down but no its in high gear again.

Pete Specos will follow up with Lt. Burton on this and the other issues discussed at the meeting.

The next PSA1 meeting according to the 15th district calendar on their web site is August 22nd at Aria Hospital at 7PM.  This is also listed at Captain’s Town Hall meeting so maybe Captain McCloskey will attend as well.
