Center for Northeast Philadelphia History
The Center for Northeast Philadelphia History met last week at the Tacony Music Hall and afterward took a tour of the Victorian-era structure.
The center, which is sponsored by the Historical Society of Frankford, visited a structure that is the only property in Tacony listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Frankford High’s new principal visits Northwood Civic
Ed Koch, the new principal, also spoke briefly at the Frankford CDC board meeting before going over to St. James.
Plans were in the works for Koch, a 34-year veteran of the School District of Philadelphia, to become principal at the high school.
When he arrived for the visit, he saw students hanging outside.
“I thought they were there to valet park,” he said.
Inside, he saw students roaming the hallways like they were at a mall.
“I thought I was at Macy’s and missed a sale,” he said.

Schwartz Supports Land Bill Creating
National Historic Trail in Philadelphia
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Schwartz voted today for a new law establishing a National Historic Trail that will pass through Northeast Philadelphia via Frankford Avenue. The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail will mark the 600-mile route taken by the armies of George Washington and Count Rochambeau followed in 1781 to arrive in Yorktown, VA to fight the battle that ended the Revolutionary War.
“The designation of the Washington-Rochambeau route as a National Historic Trail recognizes one of the many important contributions that Philadelphia made to achieving independence,” U.S. Rep. Schwartz said. “It serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices and efforts that our ancestors made for our country and to advance democracy.”
As a one of only 15 co-sponsors of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail Designation Act (H.R. 328), U.S. Rep. Schwartz supported the inclusion this trail designation as part of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. The bill designates the route, which has been under consideration since 2000, as a National Historic Trail, maps the route, and gives administrative authority to the Secretary of the Interior. The bill has already passed the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate and is now being sent to President Barack Obama to be signed into law.
