Just wanted to remind you (please pass it on) that our Monthly Frankford Community Garden Clean up night is tomorrow (Thursday) from 6 pm to about 8 pm or so.  If you’re planning to attend please put on some bug spray, get some gloves and bring along your deweeding equipment.  I’ll have gloves and equipment and bags as well!
Also note that from now on we’ll be having our Monthly clean up the second Thursday of the month so as not to conflict with the Frankford Civic Association meeting.  Ironically I think the FCA moved their meeting time to tomorrow because of Labor Day – anyway, can’t please everyone everytime!! LOL!

Description – FRANKFORD CIVIL WAR MEMORIAL In preparation for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War (2011-2015) research has begun on the CW veterans interred in Frankford’s Cedar Hill Cemetery. Learn of the all-volunteer effort to install individual gravestones involving the Sons of Union Veterans, CW re-enactors, Masons, SW Roundtable members, and others – and how you can be a part of this effort to preserve the history of Frankford and the nation.
I took a walk through today to get a first hand look.  I’ve never been in that part of Cedar Hill.  Looking down on Frankford, you can imagine what it was like back in the 19th century.  Here are some pictures that show the present state of the memorial.

    Description – We will be holding a sidewalk art contest for kids. If adults would like to show off their skills with chalk they are welcome to come. There will be prizes for the kids and refreshments for all! Thanks for your support. Also, A veterinarian and a team of volunteers will offer low-cost vaccinations and microchips to pet owners (both dogs and cats). They will also give out info about spay/neuter, pet care, leash laws, etc. They will give out vouchers for $40 spay/neuter and vaccinations for pit bulls and pit bull mixes. Also, they have leashes and collars they will give people.

    Officer Andrews got the meeting rolling with a summary of old business.  Tim Wisniewski, executive director of the Frankford Special Services District, announced that the Safety Ambassadors would begin using the now vacant police trailer at the corner of Foulkrod and Frankford Avenue as an manned office.  The trailer has been a sore point in the community since everyone knows that it is useless as it is now unused.  It has been mocked by the drug dealers and prostitutes who go so far as to do their business in its shadow.  The safety ambassador’s presence will make that a bit more difficult.

    So what brought all these people out to the meeting?  Several groups have issues on their blocks and all happened to come out on the same night.  The smart thing was that small groups of people got together and organized and decided to show up and ask for help.  They came from all parts of Frankford.

    Officer Andrews recorded each issue and the sergeants made comments about them when something was known.  Followup will take place next month.

    Sometimes there are no quick and easy solutions to these problems but if you don’t report it you can guarantee that it will just go on getting worse.  Let’s see if we can get more people out to the next PSA meeting.
