Rachael Ray Shines on Frankford

Breaking news from the Inquirer:

Frankford High School got a surprise this morning when celebrity chef Rachael Ray announced an extreme make-over of the school’s culinary classroom to honor teacher Wilma Stephenson, whose take-no-prisoners style was the focus of the 2009 documentary, Pressure Cooker.

Ray announced the surprise renovation via video and the work is  to be completed by the time students return from spring break Monday. The Rachael Ray Show, which airs locally at 10 a.m. on 6-ABC, is providing state-of-the-art equipment and school district staff will work around the clock to get the job done.

Temple Journalists Profile Northwood’s Excel Academy

Temple’s journalism students have made another visit to 19124 as Jennifer Reardon and Maria Konidaris profile the Excel Academy in it’s first year of operation on the grounds of Friends HospitalCamelot Schools of Pennsylvania, Excel’s operator, has been contracted by the school district to bring students that have fallen behind in other northeast Philly high schools the opportunity for them to catch up and graduate.  It received unanimous approval for its zoning variance last fall by the Northwood civic.

The last time they stopped by was for a piece on Frankford’s Main Street.

Deni Champions

On Saturday, March 21, 2010, Coach Ryan Davis led the Deni Basketball Team to win the NEPL Championship for the 15/16 year old boys basketball. The game took place at Vogt Recreation Center and the final score was Deni 48, Vogt 43. Deni Basketball had a dream season with a regular season record of 8-1. In the playoffs, Deni went 3-0 to gain the NEPL Title.
