Frankford Business and Professional Association

The general meeting of the Frankford Business and Professional Association was held at at Frankford Hospital on Wednesday, February 13th, with 19 in attendance. The meeting was chaired by Elizabeth McCollum Nazario the new President.

  • Discussions centered around the ongoing issue of crime and safety and the perception of Frankford as an unsafe area. While statistically crime has declined in the area, headlines have not.
  • Guest speaker Maria Quinones Sanchez, new City Council representative, talked about her first month in office. She plans to return to a future meeting of the FBPA for more detailed discussions of what can be done to develop the area economically.
  • Scott Lodise, Chief of Staff for State Rep. Tony Peyton made a presentation on National Safe Place. He encourages businesses in the area to consider joining this network.

The next general meeting of the FBPA is scheduled for Wednesday April 9, 2008. If you are in business in any way in Frankford you are invited to join the FBPA.

  1. The Frankford Business and Professional Association was held at at Frankford Hospital on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 and I was in attendance taking notes.

Maria Quinones Sanchez, wanted “more detailed discussions of what can be done to develop the area economically.”

Here are my exact notes from the meeting:

“In attendance was the numerous ‘non-profit profiteers’ from Frankford and Maria Quiñones Sanchez.

The topic of too many non-profits in the area came up, along with the new proposed drug rehab ‘Berkley Property LLC and Wedge Med.’

Maria Quiñones Sanchez said that ‘it was a done deal,’ and that the ‘Civic Associations don’t know anything about zoning.’

(I assume she means all Civic Associations, not just the NCA and East Frankford Civic Association)

On the surface it sounds rather insulting toward the Civic Associations, but she is right. Most of the people in the local civic associations don’t know a damn thing about zoning. But neither does she; then again she doesn’t have to.

She blamed the ‘done deal’ part of it on Dan Savage.” – end of notes.

Today: Quinones-Sanchez wants four more years-

Her supporters in attendance “were longtime Frankford activist Bill Gambrel, state Rep. Dwight Evans and Council members Wilson Goode Jr., Bill Green, Marian Tasco, Blondell Reynolds Brown, Donna Reed Miller and Curtis Jones.”

Some people from Juniata were there too: “Aument-Loughrey is running for Traffic Court this year. She and her mom, outspoken 33rd Ward Democratic leader Donna Aument, attended Quinones-Sanchez’s Feb. 15 campaign announcement.”

    Connecting the Drug Rehabs dots:

Evans supports Shanchez who turned a blind eye to Frankford. Wedge medical Center contributed to Dwight Evans: http://gloomyhappy.wpengine.com/2008/03/13/wedge-medical-and-the-facts-of-life/

Does anyone know what happened with this?

  2. Sanchez blames everything on Savage or anybody else she can find. She can’t blame her “do nothing” record for the past 4 years on him. It’s the same old bull—-. Maria, stop making excuses. Vote our unethical, incompetent, DROP supporting Council person OUT!. Dan Savage has our vote – hands down.
