Earlier this year the Archdiocese announced that it would be closing Northeast Catholic High School. The alumni and parents wasted no time in doing something about that and as a result, in December, The Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the National Cristo Rey Network authorized a Planning Team to conduct a feasibility study and preliminary plans for starting a new Cristo Rey model high school in Philadelphia.
The proposed school would be part of the National Cristo Rey Network and not run by the Archdiocese. This would provide for the continuation of the traditions of North at it’s location on Torresdale Avenue. This is not a done deal by any means but it shows what a bottom up approach to problem solving can accomplish.
