From Kim Washington:
Wilmot Park
Summer activities in Wilmot Park will kick off during the week of July 9th and will run until the last week of August. We are expanding the summer basketball league to include a boys and a girls league and we have also added a youth development component to the league this summer. In addition to playing basketball the youth will participate in workshops concerning, civic engagement, conflict resolution, bullying & violence, and other activities that will range from workshops on how to conduct themselves in the community to speaker engagements from professionals from Frankford.
Tackawanna & Wilmot Community Garden
Charlene Lewis Walker has taken the lead on establishing a Jr. Gardening Club to care for the community garden. The youth picked the vegetables from the beds that we started in April and installed another gardening bed, planted more vegetable seeds and started a fruit bed which contains watermelons, honey dew melons and cantaloupes. We also acquired a tool shed for all of the park group’s tools. These tools are for use to the general community and can be used for organized block cleanups. If a parks group member would like to organize a cleanup and use the tools simply contact myself or Jason for the key to the tool shed.
Frankford 224 Day
224 Day will take place again this year. The event will be held on Saturday, July 14th from 12:00pm until 3:00pm. The drill team usually starts on Ditman and Wakeling in front of the Gambrel Recreation center and marches through the neighborhood until they end up on Orthodox and Ditman street near post 224.
