By: Diane Kunze, president, Friends of Overington Park
A big thank you goes out to all of the good people that came out this past Saturday, April 11th, to help the Friends of Overington Park clean up the park for Spring!
We had 28 volunteers come out to help. Joy Of Living house, Frankford High School JR ROTC, Mormon Elders, Frankford Garden Club, our Friends group and neighbors came out on a beautiful day to lend a hand making our park a better place. We cleaned up the sidewalks around the park, big job, over 50 bags of trash and leaves. Our flower beds were cleaned out and made ready for spring planting, downed wood was collected, trash was picked up around the park. By the number of families playing in the park on Sunday we must be doing something right.
The big job of installing our new bulletin board only made it halfway. Next weekend we hope to finish the job. Thanks to Mezalick Studio for receiving and delivering the board. Our City Councilwoman, Maria Quinones-Sanchez came by to check on our progress. It’s thanks to her that the community bulletin board is going up in Overington Park, thanks Maria!
Thanks also to Jason Dawkins, our new State Representative, for bringing pretzels for our volunteers, and printing up our flyers to get the word out about our events.
Thanks to the Mayor’s office for clean up support, and Parks and Recreation, for their year round help, guidance, and support.
The Friends of Overington Park are proud of the work we all have done together to make this corner of Frankford shine.
Come out and join us next month on Saturday, May 16th, from 10 to 1, as we hold our 4th perennial plant sale, and park planting. We need your help, come pick up a beautiful plant for your home garden or lend us a hand making Overington park bloom. We will have refreshments and tee shirts for our volunteers. Hope to see you there!
They did a beautiful job.
