The Churches of Frankford

Over these last 6 years I have bee privileged to visit quite a few of the churches in Frankford.  In this community, they are a force that has held it all together for those of us who choose to live here.  So when the two Catholic churches were closed, I decided to do a picture show of those churches who chose to remain.  It is an embarrassment that the Catholic church left us but it is a tribute to the fine institutions who remain to serve the people of Frankford.

These pictures were all done on a single day (except one, sorry Rev. Gabe) and it is quite possible that I missed one.  If I did, please let me know so I can do an update.

Final Brushstrokes on the Mural

Cesar Viveros has been working on the final mural at St. Marks for about a month now and I met him down there as he was doing the final touch up prior to the big celebration this coming Saturday.  That will include the completion of the murals, the rain garden in Womrath park and the 4600 block corridor improvements.  It’s at 11AM at Womrath park and we’ll be there.

Below is a video of Cesar at St. Marks.  It has been an education for me watching the project evolve.  It was a continuous process that started out with actually asking the residents of Frankford what they wanted.  Cesar listened very intently to everyone and at various points I saw changes come into a mural that people had suggested. It all came from the community from those who chose to participate.
