Brown Fields Meeting February 11th

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission (PCPC) invites you to a community meeting on the evening of Wednesday, February 11th to review and comment on preliminary ideas for guiding the reuse of brownfields in Bridesburg and areas near the Frankford Creek in Frankford, Juniata Park, and Port Richmond. The meeting will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School, 1840 Torresdale Avenue. Please use the Jasper Street parking lot and entrance.

This Planning Commission initiative is formally called the Lower Frankford Creek Watershed Brownfields Area-Wide Plan. Funding for the project has been provided to the City through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  www.frankfordcreekbrownfields.com

February 11th will be the third of four public meetings scheduled for the Area-Wide Plan. At this meeting, community members will be invited to review and comment on general principles to guide brownfield reinvestment as well as specific, preliminary alternatives for the potential reuse of selected brownfield sites. The EPA defines brownfields as land whose reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.

The Planning Commission began working on the Area-Wide Plan last spring with a team of consultants, public agencies and community representatives, including the offices of City Council members Henon, Quiñones-Sánchez, and Squilla. Materials from the recently completed Existing Conditions phase of the Area-Wide Plan are available at www.frankfordcreekbrownfields.com. The Area-Wide Plan is designed to inform the Planning Commission’s ongoing River Wards district plan phila2035.org/home-page/district/river-wards/ and other, ongoing development and planning initiatives along the Lower Frankford Creek watershed. The final product of the Area-Wide Plan will outline an implementable, sustainable approach for the redevelopment of key brownfield resources.

RSVPs for the February 11th meeting are appreciated. Please call the City Planning Commission at 215.683.4653 if you plan to attend or have any questions about the Area-Wide Plan and meeting.
