Frankford Marches for Peace

After several weeks of planning, there was a huge turnout by Frankford residents marching for peace on July 12th.  Marching down Oxford Avenue from Northwood; down Frankford Avenue from Pratt Street and up Margaret from East Frankford, they converged on the Arrott Transportation Center to rally for peace in the neighborhood.

While the usual purveyors of drugs and violence looked on, speakers called for an end to the violence that has plagued Frankford.  While that call may have fallen on many deaf ears, you could not mistake the number of people who put their bodies on the line.  They were loud and they were present and that is really what mattered most.  They chose to walk rather than hide in their homes ignoring what is going on around us.  It was a show of unity that I have not seen in the 10 years that I have been reporting on Frankford.

The big question now is, where will you be when the next march is held?

Thanks to Maria Huymaier, St. Mark’s Church and Ronald Ryan for the photos.
