Major crime continued its downward trend in 2018 in Frankford.
We are using statistics for PSA1 which includes Frankford up to Bridge Street and Bridesburg because that is how the police report the numbers.
Even as homicide peaked at a six-year high with 13 deaths, overall crime saw significant improvement.
Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Theft, and Robbery were all at the lowest level since we have been tracking them.
That is great news but you cannot ignore the effect of those 13 homicides, which are largely drug business related. The sound of gunshots in your neighborhood does not lend itself to feelings of security and safety.
The good news is that there are some new efforts to address that problem. The police are doing their part with an increased presence in the areas with the greatest drug traffic. That police truck parked on the corner of Oxford Avenue and Frankford Avenue certainly makes a statement and the anti-violence group organized by Nashid Edwards and Jason Dawkins is working on some innovative strategies to work on the problem from another direction.
Have a look at the details of the report below. Don’t be afraid to be optimistic.
