34th year for the Frankford Breakfast Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Frankford Breakfast Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day is Monday, 1/20/2020 from 8:30-11am at Frankford Friends School Annex, 1424 Orthodox St, at the corner of Penn & Orthodox Sts.

2020 is the 34th year for the Frankford Breakfast Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and while we will still be serving Breakfast, we will be doing something different with our morning gathering.

This year we are proudly joining with The Ray of Hope Project’s 15th Annual MLK Day of Service project. The founder of The Ray of Hope Project, Frankford’s own Ray Gant, has built relationships with neighborhoods across Philadelphia, with Police and Town Watch, CLIP, Civic Associations, Colleges and Universities, finding ways to bring people together in caring for each other through service to under-served communities.

In addition to helping Ray recruit and coordinate Cleanup Volunteers, the Frankford Coaltion of Neighbors will be serving Breakfast for Volunteers from 9-11:00 am. Volunteers are welcomed to come in, have breakfast, and be directed to Cleanup locations, or to come eat Breakfast after their work is done! Doors open at 8:30am.

We are very excited about this Project, and we hope to see all our Friends and Neighbors come out – if enough of us are out there cleaning, we should be able to get it done quickly, and have time to Break Bread together.

We will also have an indoor Project, assembling packages for ODAAT’s (One Day at a Time) Homeless Outreach program.

Ray chose 10 blocks to be cleaned, starting at 10am. The Frankford Coalition of Neighbors will be doing our best to clean 5 blocks in Frankord, with the addition of the 1500 block of Orthodox, and the 4500 block of Griscom, where Frankford Friends School and John Marshall Elementary School stand.
The Frankford blocks included in the Ray of Hope Clean Up are:

1300 Ruan St
4600 Griscom St
1400 Church St
1300 E. Sellers St
1900 E. Margaret St (with Faith of God Assembly, Pastor Richard Smith)

PLEASE sign up now! Of course, you are welcome to simply appear on 1/20/2020 if you are so moved – & bring friends or family!
