Jackie Leads His First Meeting

The Frankford CDC’s new staffer and mascot, Jackie the Yellow Jacket, ran his first meeting this past week! We were so proud of him that we couldn’t resist snapping this picture. Here he is discussing upcoming special events with the CDC’s Managing Director, Tracy O’Drain, and Edgardo Gonzalez, from State Representative Tony Payton’s office.

Meet Jackie

The Frankford CDC decided it’s high time we introduce our newest staff member, and mascot, Jackie the Yellow Jacket.

Jackie, whose love for the Frankford Yellow Jackets is just one of the many reasons we thought he was perfect for the gig, has been a big help to our organization in his short time with us. As you can see from the picture below, he was determined to hand out as many recycling bins as possible this past Saturday during the Mayor’s Cleanup. Jackie has a mischievous streak, however, and will try to take over your office if you don’t watch out.

Expect to see a lot more of Jackie in the coming weeks. You just never know where he’s going to turn up, or who he’s going to turn up with.

Second Frankford Business & Professional Association Meeting of the Year

The Frankford Business and Professional Association had a GREAT general meeting this morning! We welcomed two guest speakers, Iola Harper of InGoodCompany LLC and George Van Note from the City’s Health Department.

Iola, who runs classes and workshops on small business marketing, gave a wonderful presentation on the basics of marketing your business on a budget. Topics included how to target your ad campaign to a specific group of consumers as well as how to tap into resources that are readily available, such as social media and news outlets.  You can visit her online at igcphilly.com.

George Van Note, Program Manager at the city’s Office of Food Protection, focsued on food safety for special events open to the public.  He discussed what types of licenses are needed from the City when planning a special event, as well as the methods and requirements for safely serving food at special events.

We hope you’ll be able to join us at our next meeting, June 20th at 8:30a at Frankford Aria Hospital (4900 Frankford Ave), where we will hear from the Tobacco Control Project and The Business Center.
