Thriftway to Close

The Gilbert family has operated the Thriftway at Pratt Street and Frankford Avenue for almost 37 years.  They will be closing the store this Friday, September 24th.

We thank them for their service and generosity to the Frankford Community.

At the Sept 9th Philadelphia Historical Commission meeting, representatives from Rite Aid of Pennsylvania, who owns the Holiday Thriftway property, actually requested another 60-day continuance, which was granted, so the commission has yet to make a decision regarding the designation.

Local Resident Wins Santander’s Bank on Your Eagles Pride Sweepstakes

Area resident Angel Dejesus was named the grand prize winner of Santander’s Bank on Your Eagles Pride Sweepstakes, receiving the ultimate prize for Eagles fans — a pair of tickets to every Eagles regular season home game this season. He celebrated his winnings at the Eagles’ season opener on Sunday, where he had the opportunity to meet former Eagles star Bobby Taylor.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dejesus has been an avid Eagles fan his entire life. His photo entry for the contest featured him alongside his girlfriend and granddaughter decked out in Eagles gear. He plans to share the tickets with his girlfriend, Brenda Rivera, who told him about the contest and helped him submit his entry.

“I have been a devoted Eagles fan for 53 years, so winning this prize from Santander is a dream come true,” said Dejesus. “My family couldn’t believe it when I told them I won, but now I have the photo with Bobby Taylor to prove it! It’s been an amazing way to kick off the season.”

The Santander ticket sweepstakes celebrated the coming football season and the Eagles’ passionate community by inviting fans to submit a photo showcasing their Eagles pride to be entered for a chance to win a variety of prizes – with the grand prize being a pair of season tickets. As the Official Bank of the Philadelphia Eagles, Santander is excited for the season ahead and looks forward to celebrating with fans.
