2016 Summer Reading Games Kick-Off

Table outside the library with snacks, giveaways, music, balloons and Summer Reading registration. Summer Reading is from June 13th – August 5th,  Monday, June 13 at 2pm-4pm

Teen Tuesdays

Crafts, games and fun for Teens Only.  Snacks will be provided. Ms. Pam will be doing a special program with Teens on Tuesday, July 12th.  Select Tuesdays of the month | 3:00 p.m.  June 21 & 28, July 5, 12, 19 & 26

Wii Wednesdays with Vince

Come play your favorite Wii games with Mr. Vince.  For school-aged kids.  Fourth Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.,  June 29 & July 27

StoryTelling w/ Mr. O

Enjoy a story and a related craft with renowned artist Mr. O.  Every Thursday at 4pm.  June 16, 23 & 30, July 7, 14, 21 & 28

4th of July Craft w/ Ms. Tessa

Take part in a 4th of July craft while celebrating the last day of LEAP w/ Ms. Tessa.  June 30 at 3pm

Leap Afterschool Program

(Note: The LEAP Afterschool program is system-wide and is not specific to Frankford Library)  provides homework assistance, computer literacy, and library skills for students in grades K-12, and daily literacy enrichment activities for elementary school students. LEAP operates from September to June at all Free Library neighborhood libraries and Parkway Central Library, and Tuesday-Friday in the three regional libraries.  Mondays- Thursdays | 3pm -5:30 p.m.  Saturday | 1pm-5pm.  Last Day June 30th

PSA1 Crime Report for May for the 15th District

Overall crime incidents in the 15th District PSA1 for the first 5 months of the year reported are down compared to last year by about 10%.  May of 2016 compared to 2015 is down 16%.

Thanks to OpenDataPhilly we have a lot more information about crime.  The data available goes back to 2006 and includes the entire city which amounts to 2 million reports.  It now includes all incidents rather than only the most serious categories.

The Gazette will continue to report crime news as it impacts our daily lives in as balanced a way as possible.  We can’t ignore it but Frankford is much more than the crime stats indicate.

Update on a Frankford Murder

This is an update of the status of one of the 6 murders so far this year in Frankford.

Tiffany Floyd stabbed Maya Young this year for two reasons: Both were vying for the same man, and the victim was casting “voodoo spells,” a detective testified at a preliminary  court hearing on Tuesday June 7th.
