Frankford Home of the Week

We have shown you this home before during Christmas time with the outdoor lights and music. orchard 42xxa I haven’t made it the home of the week because it is a difficult picture to get with the fence in the front of the house.  But when the person driving the car stops and says look at that, then it’s a home run.  So here we are in the 4200 block or Orchard Street.

The garden is always well cared for and it is a lot of space.  I try to get over to historic East Frankford as often as possible because you never know what kind of surprise lies around the next corner.

Frankford Home of the Week

wakeling 1531 33In the 1500 block of Wakeling Street right next to the Frankford Hospital (Aria) parking garage I found this pair.  Passed them hundreds of times and then I went by when the guy who lives in the unit on the right was out trimming the lawn.  It’s small but he was doing a really neat job of it.  That is what makes some of the people in the neighborhood special.

Click on the image for a better view.  The one on the right is a duplex.  I’m not sure about the one on the left.  Both are well maintained.  That puppy on the porch is very tame but he looks intimidating.

Frankford Home of the Week

Leiper 4651a smallWe are finally over on Leiper Street on a beautiful afternoon after the rains.  I was heading down to get another picture elsewhere and almost stopped in my tracks.  It wasn’t the house.  It was the garden and the plantings around the biggest tree stump you are likely to see.  Click on the thumbnail to see it in full size.  He turned that ugly remnant of a tree into a work of art.

So I stopped to talk to the owner who was out in his yard watering.  He said he has been there about five years and had moved into Frankford for this beautiful house.  He’s done a lot of work on the exterior.  Had a new paint job done recently.  I asked him the story about that pirate flag.  He said he put it up there one Halloween and just never took it down.  Sounds like something I would do.

Here is a view of the house itself.
