I received a flyer from the Free Library of Philadelphia about their summer reading programs. I remember, oh so well, my own participation in these programs as a young child. Such memories are lasting! The Free Library has reading programs for ALL ages! The theme for this year’s summer reading program is Discover the World @ Your Library. This link will tell you all about it. Check out the Frankford Branch website of the Free Library located at 4634 Frankford Avenue. When I did, I found out that the Philadelphia Zoo will be presenting a “Zoo on Wheels” Workshop about animals “Born in the USA” on Monday, June 20 at 4 P.M.

Summer in Frankford
There was a discussion going on the Frankford Gazette message board a while ago about all the block parties that turned up around the 4th of July. The issue was that there were so many you almost had to detour to get anywhere around Frankford.
I found that to be true but it didn’t really bother me all that much. If they get the permit and everybody behaves then why not. It might be an inconvenience for a day but its not like there aren’t other ways to get around.
I like the summer around here because it is less crowded. Some folks must be taking time at the shore. For those that are home for the holidays a block party is a nice way to get folks together and give the kids some space to have fun.
Families on the 4800 block of Penn Street were having a good time past Saturday. A little music and some good food put everybody in a happy frame of mind. The kids bounced all afternoon on this contraption. Not a bad way to spend a summer afternoon in July.
If you are planning an event on your block this summer and would like to see it featured on the Frankford Gazette, send us an email and we’ll try to cover it. If we miss it, send us some pictures. You can catch up on all of our pictures at our Flickr page by following the link up at the top left of this page.
