Only one of those homicides has lead to an arrest so far.  Local video surveillance cameras helped identify suspects in the incident on the 4800 block of Penn Street.

The number code following the crime is one way of tracking an incident.  Thanks to Christopher Sawyer at philadelinquency.com who has given us a new tool for tracking this information with CourtWatch.  Besides a huge collection of other interesting stuff, he has provided this great tool for tracking arrests.

Thanks to OpenDataPhilly for making this raw data available for our use.

If you are concerned about violence in Frankford and want to take action, there is a meeting at St. Marks Church at 4442 Frankford Avenue on Monday, April 11th at 6 PM.

Streets Department’s 2016 Yard Waste Recycling Program

Streets Commissioner Donald D. Carlton announced today that the Streets Department will host the 2016 Yard Waste Recycling Program by offering 23 citywide locations for residents to drop-off their yard waste. Residents may drop off their materials to be recycled on two Saturdays, April 16 and April 30 during the hours of 9 am to 3 pm. This special service is being provided as an environmentally safe alternative for the disposal of yard waste.  The drop off location in Frankford is at Castor Avenue and Foulkrod Street.

Philadelphia residents may drop off brush cuttings, tree limbs, leaves and other similar material for recycling no more than 4 feet in length and no more than 8 inches in diameter.

  • Yard waste brought to the sites for recycling should be untied.
  • Yard waste will only be accepted in biodegradable paper bags.  These bags can be processed for recycling along with the yard waste. This reduces contamination in the recycling process.

Yard waste is also accepted at the Streets Department’s six (6) Sanitation Convenience Centers throughout the year. Materials must be in biodegradable bags or bundled. The centers are open Monday through Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm, except holidays. Residents wishing to use the Sanitation Convenience Centers must show proof of Philadelphia residency as the centers are for City residents’ use only. Yard waste set out for collection will be picked up with rubbish.

As always, there is no charge to drop-off materials. No waste materials generated by businesses or non-Philadelphia residents will be accepted. Vendors are responsible for making arrangements for the private disposal of their yard waste.

Citizens who require additional information regarding the disposal of yard waste or any other Streets Department service may contact the Customer Affairs Unit at (215) 686-5560 or visit us online at www.philadelphiastreets.com .  For all other City services, contact 3-1-1.
