Overington Park Fall Festival 2012

This past Saturday, October 20th, Friends of Overington Park held our annual Fall Festival. The weather was perfect, crisp air, falling leaves, a beautiful day in our park.

We had a big crowd, a good mix of adults and children. Little ones romped through the straw patch to find their pumpkin, faces were painted by the good folks from Grace Alone Church, ‘Operation Glow In The Dark’ puppeteer preformed to a laughing audience, and apple cider, ginger snaps, and pretzels were served.

Treat bags filled with goodies were handed out, and our seasonal worker, Lisa, an Overington park Friend, designed wonderful games for everyone to play and enjoy.

Little ones showed up in costume as well as all the adult Friends of Overington Park! We were truly blessed with a day filled with fun, laughs, and gathering of the community, sharing the true treasure that is Overington Park.

Thanks for all the support given to Overington, it means a lot, Diane Kunze, president, Friends of Overington Park

Third Annual Art Under the Trees

The weather was cool but dry last Saturday, September 29th, for our third annual Art Under the Trees. We had 25 Children under 18 who participated in our chalk art contest. A few adults couldn’t resist grabbing some chalk and joining in.

This year our biggest group was the 13 to 17 year olds. Our winners in the teen group were Stephanie Espejo, age 15 and Salina Santiago, age 17. Our 6 and under winner was Rowan Becker age 6, and 7 to 11 winner Lazaia Moore, age 9.

The park looked beautiful filled with kids letting their inner artist rise to the surface. Color was all around. The Friends group also had a printing station where leaves were printed and bookmarks stamped. We had doughnuts in the morning and water and pretzels at noon.

Many thanks go out to all those who helped make this a fun day in our neighborhood: the Friends of Overington Park, councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez, Frankford High JR ROTC, and Tony Payton’s office.

Our event was so inspiring that the next day more chalk art filled in the blocks around the park. This corner of our world became a creative and fun place for everyone this weekend. Thanks for coming out and and making it happen!

Our next event will be on October 20th from 10 till 1, Fall Festival! We will all come in costume, find pumpkins in the patch, make an arts and craft project, play games and have candy! Come out and join us!

Overington Park Update

What a success! Northeast EPIC Stakeholders and the Friends Of Overington Park held a summer movie night in our park. We had over 100 people come out this last Friday September 14th to watch Puss In Boots.

Parks and REC did a wonderful job putting on the show, and they gave everyone fresh pop corn. The children were fascinated by the pop corn maker, the movie a close second. Over 70 children and 30 adults brought their blankets and chairs and laid out under the stars to enjoy the movie. It was a lovely night. The Friends of Overington Park worked the snack  table and helped with the clean up. We handed out flyers for our next event, Art Under The Trees, Children’s Chalk Art contest, Saturday September 29th from 10 till 1, please come out and join us again!

Our beautiful park is a great place to share some time with your family surrounded by nature, and meet with your neighbors! Thanks again to all those who support our efforts in the park. Sincerely, the Friends Of Overington Park
