15th Police District PSA1 Meeting

PSA 15-1 Meeting at Jefferson-Frankford Hospital

The meeting on February 21st had District Commander John Walker, PSA1 Lead Lieutenant Venit, and the newly appointed Community Relations Officer Mc Laughlin all telling us that the PPD has been instituting some New approaches to battle our local crime problems.
Captain Walker stated that when Spring arrives we will see more Foot and Bike Patrols.  Some Neighbor issues included the push of some drug dealers is now causing issues for other areas. Please do not let them get settled into a new area, REPORT all new issues to the PPD, (via 911), any further issues could be submitted to Philly 311 and your local Town Watch Teams, Contact Town Watch Integrated Services to see how and who to send those reports.
There were further reports about drug dealers, and others seen entering and setting up in distressed, or unattended properties, please report any in your area.
But overall, things are coming back with Frankford, all thanks to new community-minded residents and Police Command.
The next meeting of the 15th Police District PSA1 will be on March 21st at 7 PM at Jefferson Frankford Hospital, 4900 Frankford Avenue.

Another Day, Another Shooting in Frankford

The shooting happened at Harrison and Tackawanna Streets, around 5 a.m. Friday, January 25th.  Police say a 29-year-old woman was shot twice in the thigh. She is in critical condition.

A man was found at the SEPTA station suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip. There is no word on his condition.

This is the same corner where 3 people were shot, one fatally, on December 3rd.  You can see the memorial behind the police in the corner on the left side of the picture.  Get the full story from CBS 3 at the link below.

Frankford Crime Rate Continues to Fall

Major crime continued its downward trend in 2018 in Frankford.

We are using statistics for PSA1 which includes Frankford up to Bridge Street and Bridesburg because that is how the police report the numbers.

Even as homicide peaked at a six-year high with 13 deaths, overall crime saw significant improvement.

Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Theft, and Robbery were all at the lowest level since we have been tracking them.

That is great news but you cannot ignore the effect of those 13 homicides, which are largely drug business related.  The sound of gunshots in your neighborhood does not lend itself to feelings of security and safety.

The good news is that there are some new efforts to address that problem.  The police are doing their part with an increased presence in the areas with the greatest drug traffic.  That police truck parked on the corner of Oxford Avenue and Frankford Avenue certainly makes a statement and the anti-violence group organized by Nashid Edwards and Jason Dawkins is working on some innovative strategies to work on the problem from another direction.

Have a look at the details of the report below.  Don’t be afraid to be optimistic.
