Need a Summer Job? Be a lifeguard.

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is hiring 400 lifeguards to staff its 70 outdoor and four indoor pools.  The job pays between $12.33 and $14.60 an hour and opportunities are available in every Philadelphia neighborhood. PPR staff can even assist interested candidates that may not be the strong swimmers, if they start the process early.

The first step for interested candidates is to attend a screening at one of PPR’s three indoor training facilities during the following screening days and times from now until June:

  • Sayre Morris Swimming Pool, 5825 Spruce Street: Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Pickett Swimming Pool, 5700 Wayne Avenue: Monday through Thursday between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Lincoln Pool, 7437 Rowland Avenue: Monday through Thursday between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Ianna Rodriguez

Congratulations to Ianna Rodriguez for being SpreadMusicNow’s March Music Student of the Month!

Ianna is a 5th grader at Northwood Academy Charter School. She has been the lead in 3 school plays including Annie in Annie Jr., Baloo in the Jungle Book, and Kelsi in High School Musical 2. Ianna has even been in an outside theater production of The Music Man.

Ianna has played the violin for 4 years and has been a member of the elite bell ensemble for 3 years, playing the music of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Radiohead, and other classics. As a talented singer, violinist and bell player, Ianna goes above and beyond in all she does. Ianna is someone the whole school looks up to. She is kind, a student leader and stands up for those who are less fortunate.
