Recycle

The city is finally getting serious about recycling which means that Frankford will start getting better service this week.

Starting this week, the city’s single-stream recycling program is expanding to North Philadelphia, and parts of the lower Northeast, including Frankford and Logan.

Coordinator Scott McGrath says it now includes nearly half a million homes:

“Residents can put all their recycling out in one or more bins and they can also add #1 and #2 plastics and they can add cardboard, if it’s flattened, which makes it easier for us to get it in the trucks.”

But it is still only every other week.  Weekly recycling for us will start next year.  Read the story at kyw1060.com.

Frankford beautification still on the way

Jon Campisi reports for the Northeast Times:

When former City Councilman Dan Savage detailed a plan to beautify Frankford’s business corridor with welcome signs and aesthetically pleasing trash receptacles, the assumption was that the amenities would be installed in a timely manner.
Well, the announcement was made in December. There’s no denying that the project has inched forward at a snail’s pace.

Twins at PowderMill

The weather has been great for construction these past few weeks and the Twins at PowderMill are moving right along.  Framing on the Cayuga Street side is finished on the first 12 homes. Roofing is complete and windows are in.  Looks like siding is next.  On Wingohocking Street, the second group of 8 is almost completely framed on the exterior.
