Movie Night in Overington Park

It wasn’t the best time of year for a movie outside but the location was wonderful! Friends of Overington Park, Tony Payton, EPIC, and the Frankford CDC hosted a great time in Overington Park last Friday night. The weather was clear but cold. The film started at 7 under a starry sky. Rango, a cartoon, was really about the spirt of the old west, no matter who you are or where you come from, people working together can change the world. Not a bad idea for the folks of Frankford to think about. It was a very good time, laughs from the adults came often, and the kids enjoyed the action and snacks. There were over 50 people attending the event, quite a success!

Next year we are hoping to host a summer movie night in our park. On a hot summer night, I think we can expect a big crowd. Thanks to all who came out, we had a wonderful time right here in our little corner of the world.

Art Under the Trees, Friends of Overington Park

Another great event went off this weekend hosted by the Friends of Overington Park. We had over 50 people in our park on Saturday September  17th from 12 till 3.

Our Second Annual Chalk Art Contest for the children of the neighborhood had 29 people enter the contest. Our top winners in each age group took home beautiful prizes of art supplies. The park was filled with color and excitement.

We had a tree ID workshop, leaf printing, games, and refreshments supplied by Tony Payton  and Maria Quinones Sanchez. There was talk about expanding the art to include different young artist’s works, displayed next year. We believe our event will grow over the next few years to include local artists, showing us just how enriched with talent our Frankford neighborhood has become. The local ROTC from Frankford High, as always, came out in force  to lend a hand. Someone in their group even took home a prize.  Click on this link for a slide show.

Hard work by the Friends of Overington Park has made the park a show  place in the community, a spot to get together with their neighbors to have a good time and share the positive things that living in Frankford has to offer. We were happy to have hosted this exciting event and hope everyone comes out to our next big event on Saturday, October 29th from 12 till 3. Our Fall Festival will have a Halloween theme, costumes, games, pumpkin patch, puppets, and being Halloween, Candy! Start thinking about  your costume for the 29th and we’ll see you there!

Thanks again to everyone who came out, you made the day a big success! Diane Kunze, Friend of Overington Park
