  • Catching Rain at Womrath Park
    When – Wed, February 16, 6pm – 8pm
    Where – Community Academy of Philadelphia 1100 E. Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124 (map)
    Description – ind out about planned changes to Womrath Park. The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) Green City, Clean Waters projects use natural systems to capture stormwater – reclaiming it as a resource while reducing harmful combined sewer overflows to our streams. In Womrath Park collecting the stormwater will also help grass and trees stay healthy. The planned changes you would notice are new native plants, small stonewalls, some changes to the pathways, and new mounds and depressions in the landscape, creating a series of rain gardens. The plan for installation in Spring 2012 is not final. Join your neighbors to comment on the planned changes

  • Frankford Business and Professional Association Meet and Greet

    Description – Annual Membership Drive. To kick off our efforts, we are holding a meet and greet event for prospective members at Frankford CDC’s offices on 4900 Griscom Street, between noon and 2:00pm on February 23rd. We hope you will be able to join us on the 23rd – and that you will be able to bring along at least one potential member. In that vein, we also hope you will bring along at least one prospective member to our next general meeting.
  • Shared Legends and Rhythms at the Frankford Library

    Description – Legends and rhythm stories common to African, African American and Native American cultures, brought to life! Participants will have the opportunity to play and learn about authentic rhythm instruments. Recommended for ages 6-12 but all ages welcome. Presented by the Free Library of Philadelphia through One Book One Philadelphia at the Frankford Branch Library, 4634 Frankford Avenue.

Catching Rainwater at Womrath Park

Big meeting coming up to find out about this plan which is the first of its kind in the city.  The idea is that the city wants to divert rainwater which now flows into the sewer system back to the earth where it belongs.  Nature has been thwarted in the city because of the paving over of the ground.  This idea would redirect the flow back into the ground and save the water treatment system from handling what is really clean water already.
