Becks’ Philadelphia Brigade Band

Tanks to the Grand Army of the Republic Museum:

Becks’ Philadelphia Brigade Band is a Civil War era brass band portraying the brass band of the 2nd Division, 2ndCorps, 2nd Brigade of the Union Army of the Potomac in 1863. The Band plays the music of the Victorian era for concerts, ceremonies, balls, parades and commemorations. The band is authentically uniformed, playing music of the period on instruments that were correct for the time.  The program featured tunes played during the Civil War era, including Christmas songs that date back to the 1850’s, plus some vocal renditions from that period. Songs will include “Cheer Boys Cheer”, “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “Shenandoah”, “Battle Cry of Freedom”, and “Dixie” (a personal favorite of President Lincoln.)

The music comes from manuscripts dating back to 1830, publications courtesy of the Library of Congress, and arrangements created for the band by our own members.

Fire and Rain

Fire and Rain

I see fire, I see rain, I see the stars, I feel the pain.

Since you walked out of my life, I see darkness where there used to be light
.
What I don’t understand, how did you leave me standing in quicksand.

I see fire, I see life, in the middle of the night – when the moon is my only light.

I see fire, I see rain coming down like buckets of pain. I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I’m going to just keep on – moving on.

Because I see fire, I see the rain, and nothing in this world is going to stop this pain.

Friendship

FRIENDSHIP

Some people may never see a volcano erupt.
Some people may never see Niagara Falls.
When God looked down and saw me standing all alone. He said I’m going to send you something that you will never forget.
It’s so rare – it’s not a diamond; it’s not a black pearl. It’s something that you will never forget.
IT’S CALLED FRIENDSHIP. MORE POWERFUL THAN RICHES AND WORTH MORE THAN GOLD.
Instant eternal friendship.
From sunset to Dawn.
When poetry meets poet.

Lost in the Game

LOST IN THE GAME

Have you ever been broken, week after week. As you stumble along with nowhere to be.
Have you ever been broken tattered and worn, as you stumble down the street with no shoes on.
Have you ever been broken, with nowhere to sleep. Strangers passing by and your eyes never meet.
So if you never been broken just stop and think, here is a lonely soul that got lost in the game.
Don’t look upon him with shame, reach out and give him a hand. Because he’s a lonely soul that got lost – in the game.

Some Thoughts on Thanksgiving

NOTHING BUT LOVE

As we journey through life, we may stumble, we may fall.

We may think we have nothing to give, nothing at all.

But deep in your heart, you still have love.

Even though you think you have nothing to give, nothing at all.

You can still give love, even if you think you have nothing to give, nothing at all.

You can still give nothing-nothing but love.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
