A Shakespeare opportunity!

Shakespeare in Clark Park

The Taming of the Shrew, plus
The Tamer Tamed, by John Fletcher
Both on the same bill
July 27-31, 7 pm
4300-4398 Baltimore Avenue
Pay what you wish
These plays have separate directors, but interviewed separately, they are entirely in agreement that Shakespeare in Clark Park is a great forum for capturing the imagination of young adults who may not have been that much taken with the plays that they read in high school. Not to mention providing great entertainment for older folks. Shakespeare wrote to entertain everyone, not just the elite of his day, and SCP strives to keep that going for modern audiences
The Taming is particularly challenging, due to the misogynistic assumptions in the original. This dual presentation strives to adjust for that a bit, but retain the value of the originals. Tricky proposition. I will publish a further discussion in this space after seeing a performance. (Pandemic and heatwave frustrated my plan to see a dress rehearsal.)
Seating is in a grassy amphitheater, so take folding chairs or a blanket. Think about traveling by El and subway surface car so as to avoid a parking problem.  Check for rain instructions and other more detailed information at shakespeareinclarkpark.org. And tell your young friends.

Who Can We Trust

WHO CAN WE TRUST

You can’t see me, I’m unseeable.
You can’t break me, I’m unbreakable, and who am I?
I’m the soldier of your wounded soul, fighting ignorance in a world gone wrong.
When one man can inflict so much pain, on families of children, and children not yet seen. In this world and another one.
Where can we lay the blame?
When People in power think only of themselves, knowing that big corporations will be behind them if they just give them a push.
So, I reiterate – who can we trust?

Long Long Time

LONG LONG TIME

You said you would love me to the end of time,
You said you would love me if the Sun never shines,
You said you would love me if the Ivy stops growing on the vine.
So, tell me. Who’s holding the keys to these promises that you made, and who would be accountable if these promises were never paid?
Because loving someone forever, is not only in a nursery rhyme.
When you find that one you love, they’re keys and promises you’ll never find.
Because when you love someone forever, you forget about all of the struggles you left behind,
And just keep loving them until the Journey is over, in its own lustrous time.
Because loving someone forever, no keys or promises need to be made.
Because loving someone forever, will take to the end of their blissful days.
No keys or promises need to be made. “That’s called loving each other until the end of time.”
And believe me, loving someone forever – it takes a long long time.

Never Say

NEVER SAY

How many good-byes will it take before you make the mistake,
That you may never see that person again.
The answer my friend is riding on the wind, that you may never see that person again.
Because there’s no good, in the word goodbye.
That only means, that you May never ever see them again, as the tears begin to flow from your eyes.
So, Never Say – Goodbye. Just farewell, and I’ll see you soon.
As the Stars flood the sky. Never Say – Goodbye.
At the end of the day as you walk away, just turn and say have a good time.

NEVER SAY – GOODBYE.
