Sonic was open yesterday with a large crowd at lunchtime. The chick-fil-A has been under construction and the structure has been studded out. Quite a development down there at Aramingo Crossing (map).

Art Class Now Forming
Was it not for the fact that I have the artist sense of a paving brick, I would consider taking an art class. Randall Whitfield, who we featured a few weeks ago, is expanding into offering classes at his studio. Beginner and advanced students are welcome from 9 years old and up.
Carter Studios Table Is Heading To The Philly Works Exibition
I just got an email from Jess Carter of Carter Studios at the Dye Works. Remember the table they put together out of a factory wall? Well it’s heading to the Philly Works exhibition at UPenn. The event is open Oct 7,8, and 10 with an opening event on Friday October 9th 5:30 to 11. And is a showcase of locally crafted goods. Check out phillyworks about page:
Philly Works is an exhibit and installation of functional objects of all scales, quantities, and production techniques that are made in Philadelphia and the region. Philly Works is a survey of design, manufacturing, and craft exhibited through a showcase of prototypes, limited editions, and mass-produced goods. Along with the objects, Philly Works will include documentation of the production spaces and the people who make the objects on display. As part of the opening night event, the show will include a “corner store” where some of the many items can be purchased.
This is an interesting theme developing around East Frankford. That once thrown away buildings are being refurbished into light industry shops. STUFF IS GETTING MADE HERE. Way to go Carters, I am impressed.

Frankford’s Biggest Market
When you talk economics, you hear a lot about markets. There is a market that seems to have grown spontaneously over the last year down on Torresdale Avenue. It’s happening every weekend and I walked through there Sunday morning to take a look. There is a heck of a lot of stuff: Clothes, toys, household goods, furniture, almost everything you can imagine.
If you have been to Europe, you may have seen some of the famous flea markets over there. This is a link to the Rastro, Madrid’s famous flea market. We should be so lucky but now it looks like Frankford has a unique informal version of our own.
Its runs roughly from Berkshire Street down to Adams Avenue on Torresdale Avenue. Lots of folks selling stuff. Take a look.
