Frankford NAC Zoning Meeting Coming Up February 14th

The Frankford NAC zoning group will meet on February 14th at 7 PM at Second Baptist Church, 1801 Meadow Street.  The following cases will be on the agenda:

4500-14 Frankford Avenue – Clinic has to come back to us. They were opposed by us at the last meeting because they misrepresented themselves by putting out notices indicating they were doing a third-floor addition to be used as an extension of their mental health services, then came to the meeting and presented something else. However, ZBA said they had to come back to us.

Salvation Army to Return to Frankford

Welcome Home

After a number of idle years, The Salvation Army is to reopen it’s Frankford Center at 4342 Frankford Avenue.

I spoke with Major Frederick Clarke, Corps Officer, and he stated that after some repair work to update the Center and installation of a handicap accessible elevator, the center is looking to reopen at the start of 2020.

Major Clarke also stated that he desires to work closely with the Community and plans are to provide counseling services to the area.  The plan is to relocate the 1920 E. Allegheny Ave. Corps Center to Frankford and close that one due to high repair costs of the building.

Thanks for the tip from Rev. Patrick Hodynski, F.O.R.C.E. Philadelphia

At the Frankford NAC zoning meeting on December 13th, the group voted to not support the request for:

The board opposed the application because of the misrepresentation of the plans for the project. Resident notifications indicated expansion of their behavioral health services then flipped it when they met with the zoning board and indicated it was for the expansion of their dental services.

At the meeting on January 10th, the application for:

The board voted not to support the application due to community opposition.  Residents came out in full force.

Frankford Crime Rate Continues to Fall

Major crime continued its downward trend in 2018 in Frankford.

We are using statistics for PSA1 which includes Frankford up to Bridge Street and Bridesburg because that is how the police report the numbers.

Even as homicide peaked at a six-year high with 13 deaths, overall crime saw significant improvement.

Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Theft, and Robbery were all at the lowest level since we have been tracking them.

That is great news but you cannot ignore the effect of those 13 homicides, which are largely drug business related.  The sound of gunshots in your neighborhood does not lend itself to feelings of security and safety.

The good news is that there are some new efforts to address that problem.  The police are doing their part with an increased presence in the areas with the greatest drug traffic.  That police truck parked on the corner of Oxford Avenue and Frankford Avenue certainly makes a statement and the anti-violence group organized by Nashid Edwards and Jason Dawkins is working on some innovative strategies to work on the problem from another direction.

Have a look at the details of the report below.  Don’t be afraid to be optimistic.

Good Vibes Grand Opening – AGAIN

The grand opening of Good Vibes on January 18th was delayed due to a problem with the Gas, we were doing a test run on Thursday and the gas meter was leaking so we had to postpone the opening. PGW is coming on Tuesday to fix the problem, so Grand Opening will be this coming Friday, January 25th, DEFINITELY.

We will announce any last minute changes on the Frankford Gazette if necessary.
