The Early Photographers of the Frankford Area
Drawing from the archives at the historical society, the exhibit displays images by the men and women both professional and amateur who lived or worked in Frankford from 1850 to 1930.

Lecture for October 8th at The Historical Society of Frankford will be a show of lantern slides produced by the members of The Frankford Camera Club.
The club was founded in 1889 and made it’s home at the Wright’s Institute for about 50 years. They were a group of men and women who were amateur photographers during an age when the technology was becoming available to everyone.
Come view these slides on our projector called a Balopticon that dates from around 1914.
Lecture begins at 7:30 pm followed by light refreshments. Open to all free of charge. Donations gratefully accepted.

Mike Newall from the Inquirer did a very good story on my old neighbors on the 4800 block of Griscom.
The problems there are pretty well know but solutions have not been forthcoming. The neighbors decided to try something new.
Every block has its rhythms. For so long, on the 4800 block of Griscom Street in Frankford, the daily rhythms were decided by drug dealers: a group of about 20 men who, on hot summer days, often stood in the shade under the trees near the Alonzos’ house, where Saul, a 33-year-old construction worker from Guatemala, lives with his wife and two young daughters.
Like other parents on Griscom, Alonso told his children the gunshots they heard were fireworks.

The 3rd Annual Frankford High School 5K Run will be held on Saturday, October 19th. See flyer below or follow this link for more information.
The run is open to everyone of all ages. Students receive a discount. For the first time they are also working in conjunction with the String Theory Schools, Arts and Sciences campus which is hosting a community wide health fair at their school on Large & Dyer Streets from 10 AM to 1 PM.
The day will close with the Pioneer Varsity Football Team hosting Ben Franklin HS at 12 pm in the War Memorial Stadium. A busy, fun filled day in Frankford.
