Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R)

w3rlogo4webYou may have heard about the upcoming meeting at the Historical Society of Frankford this Tuesday at 7:30 PM.  (We have it listed on the community calendar.) Robert A. Selig, PhD, United States National Parks Service Historian will discuss  The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R).  It is the newly-designated National Parks Service National Historic Trail, and the first in Northeastern United States.  It marks the 685 mile route the French and American troops took toward Yorktown and a decisive victory for independence.

Dr Selig is a professionally trained historian, scholar, lecturer, consultant, editor, and writer, whose area of expertise is German and German-American history, particularly the role of Germans in the American Revolutionary War. He is one of the few experts on this side of the Atlantic on the role of French troops under the comte de Rochambeau in the American Revolutionary War, and has served as a consultant to several states.   When the National Park Service established a steering committee to conduct a resource study of the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary, Dr Selig was named its historian (rselig@remc7.k12.mi.us).

This trail comes through Frankford of course and is of interest to us but it is also significant to the entire Philadelphia area.  Frankford sat astride the Kings Highway and as such had a unique vantage point to witness some historic events in our history.  Come and hear about it from the expert himself.

Overington House Tenth Anniversary Celebration

Our Friend, Lynda DeSouza reports on the celebration held at the Quaker City Yacht club Saturday night.

Friends, neighbors, volunteers, and local political people turned out to wish Overington House a happy birthday. Food, beverages and fellowship were enjoyed by all and funds were raised to help sustain the work of Overington House.
