Frankford Junior Garden Club Visits A Cupcake Wonderland!

Yesterday afternoon, ArtsRising, the Frankford CDC, and the Frankford Neighborhood Advisory Committee teamed up to bring the Frankford Junior Garden Club to A Cupcake Wonderland‘s production space in Globe Dye Works. Learning, fun & deliciousness ensued!

Lily Fischer and Nima Etemadi showed the Junior Garden Club members their kitchen, and spoke about their career choices, passions, and hard work, as well as their experiences appearing on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars not once, but three times.

Lily & Nima emphasized the hard work that goes in to running your own business, and that not every day or task is glamorous – but that it is important to follow your passions in life. Lily knew she wanted to bake; and not only did she take the leap of faith to start her own business, but she and Nima have put in the hard work and long days it took to make it a success.

We hope the Junior Garden Club members who participated yesterday were as inspired as we were by Lily & Nima!

We also hope that you enjoy the pictures below!

Better Know a Frankford Business: 3rd Fed Bank

Our commercial corridor is lucky to have several strong institutions, including 3rd Fed Bank, located near the Margaret Orthodox stop on the 4600 block of Frankford Avenue.

3rd Fed was founded more than 90 years ago right here in Northeast Philadelphia, as a Polish American Savings Building and Loan Association. Ever since their founding they have been dedicated to impeccable customer service and being a positive and active member of the various communities they serve. They aim to be a community focused bank that offers the same financial services as larger institutions. In fact, Frankford Branch Manager Lou DePaul never misses a Frankford Professional & Business Association meeting, and has partnered with the CDC on small business banking events that have proven incredibly helpful to the emerging entrepreneurs who will be critical to the revitalization of the Frankford Avenue business district. 3rd Fed even has a “Giving Back to the Community” Program – and the CDC knows firsthand that they truly do give back.

With 14 locations in Philadelphia, Mercer, and Bucks, 3rd Fed is able to offer 24 hour banking, loan options (including “green loans” to help finance energy improvement projects for the home), and a host of programs for both individuals and businesses.

3rd Fed is proud to be a part of the Frankford community, and we couldn’t be happier to have them as partners. So stop on in to 4625 Frankford Avenue and introduce yourself. Or look out for Lou and his team at the next major Frankford event, including Hope 4 Philly coming up in September.

3rd Fed Bank staff help a local business owner during their Day of Banking Counseling with the CDC.
