Townhouses Proposed in ummm….Frankford Valley?

Item number 17 for this Tuesday’s meeting of the City Planning Commission is a “preliminary plat” for a gateway townhouse development at Aramingo Ave and Church Street.  Although the writeup on philly.com is reporting this location as Port Richmond, it’s north of the Frankford Creek and so is safely within Frankford’s borders.

But aside from the nitpicking, it’s interesting the news that’s been coming out of east Frankford these days.  That someone would even consider building townhouses down, there I find impressive, but as we’ve been  covering the buildup that’s happened south of the Frankford Creek has been going on for a few years, and the new Aramingo Crossings shopping center is about as close to Frankford as you can get.  So it was probably only a matter of time before the semi vacant industrial sites down there would be reclaimed.

I’m Just Giddy Over The Globe Dye Works Brochure

globe-dye-works-signI am such a Globe Dye Works fanboy it’s ridiculous.  We spent 2 years with this blog documenting the troubles of Frankford it feels so good to be able to blog about something good.  So anything I get about the Globe Dye Works I just throw up on the net.  They were passing out such a finely crafted brochure at the Layers event that I started sending emails around to see if I could get a PDF of it that I could share on the net.  After a couple days of searching, Kristie Landry of L Squared Studios sent it to me and now I’m showing it to you.

It’s got words like “move here and prosper.”  Move here as in come to Frankford.  And prosper, as in…Frankford.  Go figure.  And check out this long drink of water:

Frankford is an historic and architecturally rich neighborhood.  Its location and building stock make it the perfect neighborhood for an artistic hub.  The neighborhood is 10 minutes from Northern Liberties and Fishtown, 15 minutes from Center City and Bala Cynwyd and one hour from the Holland Tunnel.  Globe Dye Works is a short walk from the Market/Frankford El and one minute off the Aramingo Exit of I-95.

I know its marketing material and all, but damn, I’m drinking the cool-aid.

Aramingo Crossings Rises

It really annoys me that different places put the “s” at the end of Aramingo Crossing[s], but anyway, here’s an iPhone pick of a wall that is just now sprouting up out of the ground.  It seems odd because it’s coming up perpendicular to Aramingo Ave, I would have thought they’d push it to the back to get tons of parking in but what do I know.

Aramingo Crossings Wall

Now remember why we care about this even though it’s not in Frankford.  It’s REALLY CLOSE to Frankford.  We’re getting Fur-Niture Sir-Plus, which advertises on TV and dont’ get me started on Globe Dye Works and what’s going on in East Frankford.  Good things are happening, and they’re coming from the southwest.
