Frankford Home of the week

We came back over to 4600 block of Melrose Street this week.  I don’t think we give enough coverage to row houses and I’ve been trying to correct that problem.  Once again this pair started out identically and have been changed over the years.  The stone veneer on the right looks a bit older.  That one also has its original window configuration if not the original windows.  The house on the left benefited from the addition of the bow window.  That does give you a better view in a house that sits right on the sidewalk.  Have a look at the complete collection of homes of the week here on our flickr page.

Frankford Home of the week

This week we’re on the 4700 block of James Street.  If you are old enough to remember Blumenthal Brothers chocolate factory on Margaret Street you will know this block.  One of my earliest memories is of passing by the factory on the way to my grandparents and being enveloped by the overwhelming smell of chocolate.  They were making Goobers, Raisinets and Sno Caps.  Very popular at the movies.  The folks in these houses looked right into the back of the plant.

They are a pair of neat twins with those unusual bricks. I’m not sure what you call them but they are harder than the ordinary red brick.

Frankford Home of the week

This week we’re still in historic East Frankford.  I was surprised as usual when I turned onto the 4500 block of Melrose Street.  These twins were both nice and well kept.  it’s almost hard to tell that they are twins though.  The one on the right has seen some significant changes over the years.  The one on the left looks to be in its original configuration.
