Romain House Update
HGTV will be running the story of the rahab of the Romain House on Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11th) at 8:00 PM. “Change the World 2009” will be on Comcast channel 77. You can have a preview of it here.
Romain House Update
As we reported back in March, the Romain House, 4245 Romain Street (map), was awarded a makeover in the HGTV voting. Inqlings at Philly.com reports that the work began on Friday:
HGTV is in town with host Carter Oosterhouse and designer Monica Pedersen as they rebuild a house off Frankford Avenue for the Pennsylvania American Legion Housing for Homeless Veterans Corp., which will put up three veterans there. Jack Prichard, Adam Norbutti, and Chris Wray, three electricians from Local 98 and Iraq war veterans, are among the volunteer workers. The project will be shown on Veterans Day on an HGTV special that also will profile local veterans, including Stanley Fabiszewski, who served under Gen. George Patton in World War II. Flyers coach John Stevens and Mayor Nutter attended Friday’s opening ceremony. Closing ceremony is scheduled for June 28.
Good news for the residents and Romain Street as well. We’ll try to get down there to get some pictures.
Romain House
The Romain House will get a makeover thanks to HGTV. As we reported back in February, the Romain House was in the running for a makeover. Viewers could vote for the home of their choice and Philadelphia (Frankford) and St. Louis came out on top. So when the makeover is complete we’ll post a before and after picture for everyone to see. I expect most of the improvements will be on the inside for the comfort and safety of the residents.
Thanks to Shirley for the tip.
Update on March 31st from foxbusiness.com:
…the three- bedroom facility located on Romain Street in the historic Frankford District, provides veterans with food, shelter and employment assistance after concluding military service. The 70-year old home will receive a kitchen remodel and new appliances, insulation, windows and renovations to a bathroom that will improve accessibility for disabled veterans….the makeovers also will be featured in an HGTV special in October 2009.
