Theresa Hanas to Resign as Commercial Corridor Manager

We received this news from Tracy O’Drain, Frankford CDC Managing Director:
I would like to inform everyone of Theresa Hanas’ resignation as Commercial Corridor Manager.  Although I am saddened at her leaving, I am very happy for her and wish her all the best in her future.
Theresa has been an exemplary employee with unwavering determination to get the job done.  She has had to go up against obstacles of all types and not once have I ever heard her complain.
She is out of the office this week and next week (November 19th) will be her last day.  Please feel free to stop by, e-mail or call to wish her well!
Within the next week I will be posting the job opening, but will receive resumes for the position now.  I will have a job description available, hopefully in the next few days after Theresa and I have reviewed for accuracy.

Theresa knew the Avenue and all the merchants on it.  She will be missed.  I’ll post that job description for anyone interested as soon as it is available.

Be a Brat Pajama Party

No, we’re not taking advertising but I couldn’t resist that title.

I got a tip on this from Mike Mawson, Pete Specos and now this from one of our best informed sources:

On the heels of the Art Holiday for rent party space (which seems to be closed, judging by the “Wedding Reception has been moved to Broad Street ” signs that were taped to the building last weekend) I spied a flyer announcing The Third Floor’s Nov 12th “Be a Brat Pajama Party”.  According to the flyer the Third Floor is located at 4651 Frankford Ave across from the Free Library.    I think that would make it that building with the big glass windows that faces the El platform.  Mattress and home improvement stores are on the bottom.

Here is a myspace link to party there back at the end of August:

Looks like it has been having events for a few months now.

I posted on the renovations to the building back in 2008.  Ownership links here.  Questions

  1. Is it legal to hold parties like this at this location?
  2. Do any of our elected officials know that this is going on?
  3. Is anybody going to do anything about it?

Yelp visitor gives glowing praise to R&R Mechanical Services

Via Yelp:

FINALLY! …. A HVAC company that does what they say and say what they do! It has been a pleaure dealing with Ramon, Rosa (office manager), Eddie and Raul (techs). They are polite, friendly, efficient, HONEST and reliable!
As a manager of residencial and commercial buildings from NYC to Philadelphia I have had much experience working with many HVAC companies and I am extremely happy and pleased to have “found” R&R Mechanical! I only wish that all of the HVAC companies that I work with had the work ethic that Ramon and company have! It is a relief to finally find one of such quality!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of these guys.  They’re located at 4313 Factory Street.  I actually drive by there on Adams all the time, I didn’t know there was anything much down there.  They even have a website.  Digging around the web even further, they have quite a few other great reviews on Service Magic.  Way to go guys.

Frankford Special Services District Get Noticed

There is a good story today in the Inquirer about the Frankford Special Services District clean up efforts.

Tim Wisniewski, executive director of the district, said the inspiration for the venture came from the broken windows theory, that a reduction in minor crimes will lead to a decrease in violent crimes. When it is applied to the appearance of Frankford Avenue, Wisniewski said, he hopes that a decrease in cosmetic blemishes will translate into less littering and vandalism.

“It’s an experiment to see what the impact is going to be,” said Wisniewski. “We’re just taking it one block at a time.”

The program is financed by Work Opportunities, an employment service provider, and is included in the district’s $78,000 budget.

When I talked to Tim at the last Frankford Civic meeting, I asked about the funding for the program since the states are all in or going into budget crisis.  He says the funding is secure for the foreseeable future.  We have seen programs like this come and go depending on the whims of the powers that be.  Frankford needs the political cooperation to keep this one going.

Frankford is waiting.
