Another Week, Another Issue the Gazette is Late On

This is going to be a running joke, I can feel it.  Just a week after I whine about us being the last to find out about the conversion of the Frankford Day Nursery into another Recovery House, we already have another one in the pipeline.  Apparently there’s some halfway house action happening at the corner of Griscom and Church.  And it’s pretty apparent from the comments that follow the post that there are other residents that know more about it than we do.  We at the Gazette are not really journalists, and we cannot do this alone.

If you know of shenanigans going on in Frankford, why don’t you just mosy on over to our message board and post it, it’s right here.  It’s pretty anonymous, post gossip if you like.  And if you don’t know anything about the bad stuff, do something even better and post some good stuff.  I have never met a resident of Frankford that didn’t find something interesting, or from whom I was not able to learn more about it’s past.

I did this last week and got an awesome response.  I learned about Overington Manor and Leandros Pizza.  Go over and tell me something new this week.

Papers Read Before the Frankford Historical Society

Papers Read Before the Historical Society of Frankford Cover

Again Joe Menkevich brings us a treasure trove of archival goodness.  He found an archive of a book entitled Papers Read Before the Historical Society of Frankford.  I cannot even take it all in.  The pdf is 460 pages consisting of 7 issues, each issue containing multiple stories.  They really run the gambit talking about slaves settling in Frankford, prominent business men, a lot of civil war type stuff.  It’s just too juicy.  If you find anything cool, leave us a report in the comments.  It is rediculous how much history is in Frankford.

Did I Mention That We Have a Community Message Board?

Cause we do, it’s right here.  You know what the funny thing about blogs is?  Other than the response comments it’s all one way communication.  I’m talking to you, and I’m the one dictating what gets talked about.  Now that’s fine, I love being in the driver’s seat.  But there’s a ton of stuff to know about Frankford that I’m just plain ignorant of.

Someone knew of the impending conversion of the Frankford Day Nursery before I did.  Someone knew about Wedge Medical and NET opening up under the ave before I did.  Someone knows about some other impending travesty about to be done to Frankford that I don’t know about.  So go over to the message board and say it.

There is a lot to talk about in Frankford.  Did someone offer you weed while you were walking down the street?  Go over to the message board and say where.  I’m not a fan of our counsilwoman, maybe you are so go over there and change my mind.  The thing I would really love to hear about are you stories of Frankford.  What it is today is the way it’s kinda been all my life,  go over to the message board and tell the stories of the things you remember.  Where were the stores you shopped at?  Tell us the history of this place because it goes back too far for me to relate it all by myself.

I dictate what gets said on this blog, go over to the message board and talk about what you want to talk about.
