Neighbors Say No to Paul Street Bar

At the Frankford NAC zoning meeting on August 10th, residents came out to vote on 2 zoning applications on the 4100 block of Paul Street.

4143 Paul Street – Variance for a rooming house. Maximum of Thirty people. – SPECIAL EXCEPTION FOR ROOMING HOUSE FOR MAXIMUM THIRTY (30) OCCUPANTS IN ELEVEN (11) ROOMING UNITS (SINGLE ROOM RESIDENCE) IN AN EXISTING STRUCTURE. ALL OCCUPANTS ARE CAPABLE OF SELF PRESERVATION AND SELF SUSTAINING. NO OCCUPANTS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF ANY COURT SYSTEM.  Rooming house was approved by 11 people. Block captain and neighbors actually like them. Will be putting in proviso that we need to review this case in three years.

4101-07 Paul Street – Variance for a night club – PERMIT FOR A NIGHT CLUB/PRIVATE CLUB FOR MORE THAN FIFTY (50) PEOPLE (NO ACTIVITIES AS DEFINED IN 14-603 (13) OF PHILADELPHIA ZONING CODE) ON 1ST AND 2ND FLOOR, FOOD PREPARATION AND ACCESSORY STORAGE IN CELLAR, ACCESSORY OFFICE ON THE 3RD FLOOR WITH ALL OTHER USES AS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED IN AN EXISTING STRUCTURE.  Same people flat out opposed it. They wanted it deemed as a nuisance and have it shut down,

Other issues that were addressed:

1673 Wakening Street– non opposition to the legalization of the duplex.

The next Frankford NAC zoning meeting will be held on September 14th at 7 PM at Second Baptist Church, 1801 Meadow Street.

Art Holiday to Become Day Care

South of Church Street is Changing

The old Art Holiday building at 4204 Kensington Avenue has permits for work to convert it to a day care center under the name Someone’s Brilliant Performing Arts LLC.

The owner, Tanya Newton, has another day care center, Bright Minds, at 910 1/2 Sanger Street.  No word yet on an opening date.

Some may say we have too many day cares and not enough other businesses but until there is a demand by other businesses for this type of old building, keeping them occupied and in use is the next best thing.

Follow these links here here here and here for the ongoing saga of the renowned Art Holiday.

Oldest House in Frankford to be Revived

1548 Adams Avenue, on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places since 2013, finally has a new owner.

1550 Adams Avenue last year

Andy Volodarski bought it and 1550 Adams Avenue this year and has begun renovating 1550 Adams Avenue for his business.  When you come up Kensington Avenue look for the Mattress sale signs.

The business will take over 1550 and 1548 will eventually be restored to a habitable residence.  Right now his priority is to get the business up and running.

Andy was well aware of the challenges of taking on the property but thought it was worth the risk, in this up and coming area.  This is a plus for Frankford business that we hope will also help preserve a piece of our history.

Mattress Outlet’s other locations are at 815 E. Allegheny Avenue and 3826 Kensington Avenue.
