A Fall Day in Frankford

Saturday was one of those days we were waiting for after all the rain and then the chill of the past few weeks.  It was also a busy day in Frankford with more events than I could hope to cover.

So first I stopped by the flea market sponsored by the parents of Mastery Charter School Smedley Elementary at Wissinoming Park.  It was a beautiful morning and I found quite a few folks looking at the goods even that early.

Next stop was the Smedley building which is under construction of the new classrooms.  The 15th District PDAC and the 15th District police officers were putting on a time for the kids.  There was a great crowd of kids, parents, cops and PDAC folks there.  If you look closely you will see Captain Bachmayer himself.

Second Saturday Update from the Frankford CDC!

We at the Frankford CDC would normally post a wrap up of this past weekend’s Second Saturday arts festival, but unfortunately the weather interfered with our event this time around. Even though it ended up being a beautiful day, our artists and performers were understandably concerned about the threat of rain and how that may have damaged their work. We are going full steam ahead with our October 8th Second Saturday fest, and will be posting more details in the coming days. Rest assured we are going to end our season with a bang – you won’t want to miss out on it, we promise! As always, Michelle Feldman is available to answer all of your questions. Give her a call at 215-743-6580 or email her at mfeldman.fcdc@gmail.com. She’d love to hear from you!

Frankford CDC Now Blogging on United Philly

From Michelle Feldman of the Frankford CDC:

We wanted to let you know that the Frankford CDC is now blogging at unitedphilly.org, too. We are still keeping our main blog, but will also be sharing information about the CDC and our projects at United Philly.  You can find our first blog post here: http://unitedphilly.org/?p=1081. And you can read more about United Philly here: http://unitedphilly.org/?page_id=238 and here: http://unitedphilly.org/?page_id=147.

We first heard of United Philly through our talks with Startup Corps, a year long entrepreneurship program for high school students through which participants start their own businesses and nonprofits. United Philly, as an organization, seeks to act as a bridge among nonprofits in the Philadelphia area, to create mutually productive partnerships and help ensure that organizations working on similar issues learn from each other and help each other grow and succeed. The Frankford CDC believes that through blogging at United Philly, we will be able to further positively promote Frankford as a neighborhood and community.
