Who Can We Trust

WHO CAN WE TRUST

You can’t see me, I’m unseeable.
You can’t break me, I’m unbreakable, and who am I?
I’m the soldier of your wounded soul, fighting ignorance in a world gone wrong.
When one man can inflict so much pain, on families of children, and children not yet seen. In this world and another one.
Where can we lay the blame?
When People in power think only of themselves, knowing that big corporations will be behind them if they just give them a push.
So, I reiterate – who can we trust?

Long Long Time

LONG LONG TIME

You said you would love me to the end of time,
You said you would love me if the Sun never shines,
You said you would love me if the Ivy stops growing on the vine.
So, tell me. Who’s holding the keys to these promises that you made, and who would be accountable if these promises were never paid?
Because loving someone forever, is not only in a nursery rhyme.
When you find that one you love, they’re keys and promises you’ll never find.
Because when you love someone forever, you forget about all of the struggles you left behind,
And just keep loving them until the Journey is over, in its own lustrous time.
Because loving someone forever, no keys or promises need to be made.
Because loving someone forever, will take to the end of their blissful days.
No keys or promises need to be made. “That’s called loving each other until the end of time.”
And believe me, loving someone forever – it takes a long long time.

Streets Work

PHILADELPHIA – Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today that street improvement work will occur in several sections of the city during the week of June 27th. The work schedule includes temporary, full street closures and parking restrictions.  Weather or special events in the area may alter the work schedule.

Streets listed below are scheduled for paving, a final phase in the resurfacing process. Operations for paving will be performed during the day hours, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The anticipated time to complete the paving of each street segment varies and is dependent on the length and width of the street. Work is being performed by City crews.

To complete the work, residents should expect parking restrictions.  Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity.  Residents are urged to move their cars from the work sites when temporary ‘No Parking’ signs are posted, so that vehicles are not towed.  In the event a car is towed, please contact your local Police District to determine its location.  Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas.

Residents can stay updated on the progress of their street using the PavePHL tool, the City’s web map paving tracker which allows residents to go online and view the progress of a street scheduled for paving. It is one of the several components housed on the StreetSmartPHL.phila.gov platform which allows the Streets Department to communicate to the public about some of its most prominent and visible core services – including paving and permitting.  Future functions of the site will include trackers for snow plowing and trash and recycling collections.

While the Streets Department will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic, residents are urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes when traveling in these areas. The Streets Department thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work to improve city streets.

For more information on the City’s Paving Program, visit phila.gov/paving.  For information on all city services, call 311.  Residents are asked not to approach employees for information as they practice social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Never Say

NEVER SAY

How many good-byes will it take before you make the mistake,
That you may never see that person again.
The answer my friend is riding on the wind, that you may never see that person again.
Because there’s no good, in the word goodbye.
That only means, that you May never ever see them again, as the tears begin to flow from your eyes.
So, Never Say – Goodbye. Just farewell, and I’ll see you soon.
As the Stars flood the sky. Never Say – Goodbye.
At the end of the day as you walk away, just turn and say have a good time.

NEVER SAY – GOODBYE.

In Memory of Those Who Died on D Day

I am certain there are other Frankford men who died on D Day but these 2 come to mind.  Both attended Frankford High School.

Ralph Daniel Fischer, Jr.
Ralph was born on February 25, 1921 in Philadelphia.  When he registered for the draft in 1942, he was living with his family at 1701 Kohl Street and working at Max Willi Pfau in Langhorne.    He enlisted in the Army on September 14, 1942.  Corporal Fischer was one of the HQ Company, 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division who parachuted into France on June 6, 1944.  He was killed in action at 22 years old.   His body was brought home in 1949 and was interred in Ivy Hill Cemetery.

George Lee Meadows, Jr.
George was born in Macon, George on August 14, 1920.  By 1930, his family was living at 4243 Rhawn Street in Philadelphia.  He enlisted in the Army on March 1, 1940 and rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant when he shipped out to Europe on January 18, 1944.  He was in Company A, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division when he was killed in action on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944.  He was 23 years old.  His body was brought home and interred in Arlington Nation Cemetery.

Rest in peace.
