Homicide in Frankford in 2014 Increased by 50 Percent

No, it was not a good year.

There were too many shootings and too many deaths.  At the same time, unless there was a truly innocent victim involved, there was very little outcry from our residents.  The result is that in 2013 there were 8 criminal homicides in Frankford and in 2014 there were 12 (50% increase).

It will remain this way until we decide that it has to end.  There is no reason why we have to put up with it.  There is no reason why kids have to be afraid to play outside.  There is no reason why murder is acceptable.  No murder, not even that guy who has been foolish enough to take the road of selling drugs.

The next time you hear that there has been another killing in Frankford, what are you going to do?

I’ll make it easy.  When that happens, there will be an invitation on this page.  Accept the invitation and you can start ending the killing.

December Crime Report for PSA 1

Good News Burglary Down – Bad News is Armed Robbery is UP UP UP

PSA 1 is South of Bridge Street, East of the Boulevard and North of Frankford Creek and all the way to the Delaware River.

Although the police left us lonely at the December PSA meeting, they must have been out tracking down the burglars.  Burglary dropped to a total of 18 in December from 36 in November.   There were no homicides at all.  The chart below is a summary comparing December of this year with last year.

December 2013 2014
Aggravated Assault Firearm 2 5
Aggravated Assault No Firearm 19 17
Burglary Non Residential 7 4
Burglary Residential 28 14
Homicide 0 0
Motor Vehicle Recovery 23 26
Motor Vehicle Theft 9 13
Rape 5 7
Robbery Firearm 12 22
Robbery no Firearm 10 6
Theft 40 49
Theft from Vehicle 39 21
194 184

There has already been media coverage of the armed individuals who are targeting people getting off the El at the Transportation Center.  That is reflected in the 22 robberies by firearm showing for December.  It always interesting to me that more stolen cars are recovered in this area than are stolen.  This link will take you to a pdf file where the entire report with details is available.  Let me know what you think.

November Crime Report

The Gazette crime report is back.  It has been a few years since we have done this.  We yielded to the big media thinking they could do a better job and they do for about 15 minutes until something more interesting comes along.  This month is just a raw count of what happened in PSA1 which is the part of the 15th district below Bridge Street and down to the Frankford Creek. It runs from the Boulevard to the river so it includes Bridesburg as well.  Next month we’ll provide some comparison and context.  PSA1 meeting is this Thursday (12/18)  at 7PM at Aria hospital.  If you want to hear about crime, stop by.

Aggravated Assaults with firearm – 5

Aggravated Assaults no firearm – 31

Motor Vehicle Theft Recovered – 21

Auto rims stolen in Northwood

Ive seen this black Dodge Charger up on bricks before. It’s on the 1200 block of Foulkrod, a block up from me. I’ve always felt that being on a bus route kept the block livelier and gave criminals less quiet to work. It doesn’t seem to help this guy.

This Toyota Avalon only lost it’s left side tires making me think the thieves were interrupted. It’s on the 4700 block of Horrocks, around the corner from the Charger.
