Crime Page Update

crime graphicI’ve updated the crime map page to include the period from May 25 through June 6th.  The results over the last few weeks have shown that the police are doing a great job at keeping the slime balls in check.  It is a tribute to their hard work and dedication under difficult circumstances.  The next time you see a cop in Frankford, say thank you.  It is unfortunate that some other neighborhoods may not be getting the coverage that had previously enjoyed but you put the resource where the problems are.

Some folks think that Frankford should have no police protection because it is too far gone.  That attitude is what created this mess in the first place.  We live here, WE PAY TAXES, we deserve the service.  We will dig ourselves out of this hole.  Then the police will be free to move on the next hot spot.

2008 2009
Homicide 0 0
Rape 0 0
robbery 15 15
ag assault 17 10
Theft 43 39
burglary 18 13
Total 93 77

Pressure Cooker

Opening this weekend at the Ritz at the Bourse is “Pressure Cooker” a documentary filmed at Frankford High School.  City Paper has a good review today.  Also if you attend this weekend you can meet the film makers and subjects of the film.

Pressure Cooker

There has been a lot of comment on the Wilma Stephenson manner in working with the kids in the film. I met her at Frankford a few months ago. The Frankford Business and Professional Association had a meeting at Frankford and had lunch prepared and served by the students of the Culinary Academy. Mrs Stevenson was no more demanding than my first sergeant in the air Force. She has standards and the students have to meet them. That is what we should expect from a good teacher.

Mormons in Frankford

Mormon Temple Salt Lake City

At the Frankford Civic meeting on Thursday night, it was made official.  The Mormons have established a beachhead in Frankford.  Those young men knocking on your door have recruited enough members to make it necessary to establish a church in Frankford.  There are over 150 church members in the 19124 area who have been going up to the nearest Mormon church at Red Lion Road.

The Frankford church is at 4612 Frankford Avenue (map).  That is the location of the former American Pants store.  They have been working on the conversion of the facility for several months in a very low profile way that did cause some concern among the folks who were watching.  Naturally nobody wanted another drug business going up on Main Street. A sign will be going up shortly and that will help identify it prominently.

My first reaction to that news was relief.  Then I thought it could be better.  Why not some nice new business?  Fact is that the market will decide what goes into that spot and the Mormons are a fine addition to fill it until some other enterprise finds a more profitable way to use the space.  In the meantime, the Mormons will bring some life to Main Street on Sundays which is sorely lacking.

Now if they would just make it into a family history center too that would be ideal.  Welcome to Frankford Mormons.

Metal Work Template For Something At Silk City

We’re back  at Jason Robert’s metal shop.  This is a template he had on the floor during my visit.

metalwork-template-1250

I don’t really know what’s going on here, but I know eventually this idea will turn into something at Silk City.  If you look on the right of the wooden template you’ll see that curved drawing.  That’s left side of the door to the beer garden, looks neat.   So stay tuned and one day we’ll see what it looks like in 3D.
